Healing Waves Central is founded by Lulu Bell aka 77be77. She is a mother of two awesome children Daisy & Emmanuel. This organization is inspired by Daisy’s journey of being born with hydrocephalus and our journey of healing.
Daisy’s Journey
Daisy was born with congenital hydrocephalus affecting 1 in 770 children in the United States. She had brain surgery at 2 days old to implant a VP shunt in her head to drain excess cerebral spinal fluid in her brain. In the 14 years of her life, she has had 5 VP shunt failures which are fatal if not treated promptly. This event has caused Daisy several disabilities including cognitive impairment, executive functioning impairment, and seizures.
Challenges
One of the biggest challenges is the lack of pediatric neurosurgeons that are well trained and experienced to handle these cases. We have been blessed to receive access to the best hospitals in California and care from the best pediatric surgeons in the world which are few and far in between. We need more incentives for talented people to become pediatric neurosurgeons. All the other challenges in Daisy’s journey have lead to us forming Healing Waves Central. We know that Daisy isn’t the only one with challenges and we know how challenging life can get for people and their families. While many of these disabilities have no cure, what we can do is provide a healing space for our children and their families and our community.
